In this issue of the Redwood Cut,

We talk about our club's achievements in the past month around the golf and more, upcoming tournaments and pennants.

Also few messages from the Club Captain and Facilities Manager.

Hi everyone, hope everyone's had a gentle winter month of July and August, as the weather was not friendly at all to us.

We at Redwood Park Golf Club was surprised by the amount of rain we had especially during the month of July, a record amount of rainfall in 36 years.

Just about a month away to our daylight savings this year, so here's a hope for the remaining of time to be dry.

Last month we had oustanding achievements from our juniors around the country.

Bowen Shao, one of our brightest junior stars at the club, became the 2022 Hawkes Bay u13 Strokeplay Champion.

Andrew won on the 2nd play off hole, after beating Hennie Greeff in the finals.

Both Andrew and Hennie made 4 on the 2nd hole however, Andrew was lucky enough to receive a shot from his handicap and came home with the bacon.

Upcoming Tournaments

Here are our major tournaments that are coming up in the next two months or so, also have been noted by Josh's email sent out earlier.

As this tournament is a morning shotgun start, the course will be closed for non-competition play until 3:00PM on the following dates:

Saturday September 17th - 4BBB
Saturday September 24th - Alternate Shots (Foursomes)

Just to clarify few things for new members,

4BBB = two players play as partners although the hole is played by each of them, using their individual full handicaps, at the conclusion of the hole, that player recording the highest number of stableford points has his or her score entered on the card.

Alternate Shots = Also known as foursomes format, you and your partner must alternate hitting shots and also in teeing off to start each hole.

Words from our Club Captain

It has come to the attention of the Board that there is a fair amount of angst within the club around the number of days the course has been closed recently.  While it is a situation that nobody (myself included) wants, as previously reported by our course superintendant the course has received the most amount of rain this year since records started.  The decision to close the course is one made by the course superintendant and supported by the board and is made with the preservation of the course in mind.  If any member has an issue around course closures they are to be taken up with the office and not greens staff.

With regards to course preservation and the current soft conditions I would have to say how disappointed I am to see the large number of unrepaired divots and pitchmarks around the course.  All members have a responsibilty to other members to ensure they  leave the course in better condition than they found it.

I would also like to remind members that if they are not intending to keep their booking to either remove it from the booking sheet or contact the office.

On a more positive note I would like to welcome Ben Bristow to the club who has joined the greens staff.  Members will probably be relieved to hear that initially Ben will be involved in identifying problem areas around the course and drainage work will be undertaken to address this.

Finally due to a number of complaints received members are reminded the area outside the starters office is a non-smoking area.
