CHAIRPERSON OF CLUB
Gavin Read, our club's chairperson made the difficult decision to resign as chairperson of the board and member of this club at the end of August 2022.
His letter to the club is hereby quoted:
"After a long deliberation over the last few months, I have made the decision (not lightly) to move golf clubs to Whitford Park Golf Club, obviously with mixed feelings. There are many great people at Redwood Park, and I have gained many friends in my time at the Club.
After joining the Redwood back in 2014 (I think this is correct) and jumping on the Board some four years ago, I do take some personal pride in the progress the Club has made and the small part I played in its progress. This is especially in regard the course (setting aside the exceptionally wet period we have presently) and the improvements in the condition of the course in general. It is our best asset, and it is what makes members and guests want to continually return to Redwood. I will miss each Saturday (and some Sundays) the challenge of steering down to 2nd green from its tee block, as I do think it’s one of Auckland great par 3’s.
I believe the Club still has opportunities to improve the front of house and have this working efficiently and ensuring that all the members and guests have a great experience each time they have dealings with the club and its staff.
The change for me personally has been bought about by Whitford literally 7-8 minutes down the road, which is a lot more convenient. Also, to reduce my commitments outside of work and playing golf has been an important factor in this difficult decision.
I certainly wish the Club, the staff, and its members all the very best for the future."
